Mumbai Animal Save celebrates Diwali with Children; launches flagship global Plant Based Treaty

Diwali is celebrated as the festival of lights, joy, and love, a day when happiness seeps to every corner of India and when blessings of Ram, Sita, Hanuman, and Lakshmi (Indian Gods and Goddesses) are showered.

Mumbai Animal Save undertook to make this day one to rejoice for many underprivileged children in the city by distributing treats and hampers. Activists from the team went around the slums of Mumbai to distribute hampers of Diwali to 2000 children which included 5 nutritious and wholesome plant based Ladoos made using oats, a colorful Diya, a vibrant Swastika sticker, The goddess Lakshmi’s feet which denote arrival of her as per Indian Mythology, and a Plant Based Treaty Sticker.

In all, 400 such hampers were distributed. The idea was to bring smiles on the faces of the children and to see the same was a delightful gesture undertaken by the Mumbai Animal Save team. Assiduously it kickstarted the hard launch of the Plant Based Treaty. This was a hard launch of the treaty and events are planned globally for the same in more than 100 cities. In lieu of the soft launch which was done on 31st August 2021, the Plant Based Treaty was launched in 90 cities across the world as well as in cities in India. In Mumbai too there was a huge press conference organised and several meetups following that.

The Plant Based treaty is a current campaign of The Climate Save Movement, a Branch of Animal Save Movement. These are Global movements spread to end exploitation of non-human animals in slaughterhouses, dairy farms, laboratories, and other places for entertainment, and more. They strive to end speciesism, end Animal Agriculture and this treaty aims to halt the climate crisis while addressing how animal agriculture is the leading cause of climate catastrophes we see today.  Climate activists have gathered in Glasgow to protest against the COP26 climate conference. Plant Based Treaty will be promulgated through the next 12 days at COP. The UK is hosting a summit where world leaders will be asked how they plan to bring down carbon emissions. Extreme weather events linked to climate change and harmful gases – including heat waves, floods, and forest fires – are intensifying and becoming more frequent. For this conference, 200 countries are being asked for their plans to cut emissions by 2030.

In India, the Animal Save Movement has its presence in 27 cities and is growing rapidly. The sub branches are Climate Save Movement which focus on Animal Agriculture role towards climate change and switch to plant based for the planet.

We urge you all to endorse the Plant Based Treaty, to save our planet and take a step towards green life.
